August 18, 2023 - 18:30 to 22:00
Charlestown, Cornwall

Join us onboard Lady Daphne in Charlestown Harbour for an intimate concert with Cove and Jo Tagney, celebrating traditional Cornish music.
Cove:
Brought forth from the two traditions of Cornish and Irish music, Cove are an instrumental trio comprising Kerensa Wright on hammered dulcimer, Neil McMahon on fiddle and Keith Mountifield on bouzouki, whistle and bodhrán.
Blending tunes from a variety of musical traditions in much the same way that Cornish traditional music evolved with influences of visiting fishermen and traders throughout the centuries. Whether it is a concert performance or music for Nos Lowen dancing you can expect beautiful melodies and some foot-tapping arrangements!
Jo Tagney:
With an impressive repertoire and a deep appreciation for tradition, Jo is more than just a singer – she is a storyteller, weaving captivating tales through her soulful vocal performance accompanied by the ethereal sound and skilful playing of the Celtic harp. Prepare to be enthralled!
Jo Tagney is a much-loved singer and musician born in Bristol but has been immersed in the Cornish music scene for decades.
Her musical journey began at a young age, learning to read music playing recorders in primary school. What set Jo apart was her ardent exploration of various styles and genres, from singing a lot of Gregorian Chant during her grammar school days to blasting out Beatles songs with her 7 siblings!
Jo first ventured into the worlds of Traditional and classical music, playing Irish tunes on whistle and Bach on flute whilst performing with Footsbarn Theatre throughout Cornwall in the 1970s and she sang and played whistle, as a fire-eating gypsy, around Renaissance Faires in the USA in the early ’80s.
With a passion for Celtic culture and a desire to connect with diverse audiences, Jo played traditional music on various instruments while touring with the Cornish bands Gwaryoryon, Jack and Jenny Band and Caracana, around festivals in the Celtic countries of the British Isles and Brittany.
Jo has been Singing with Kescana since 1991, playing harp with Telynores since 2014, and has performed as a solo artist for four summers in central Japans Barakura English Garden.
